Our Story

The first seed for establishing Baraka Dates was planted in the early twentieth century when Ibrahim Mudhaf Al Mudhaf began his agricultural career by growing dates and wheat on Failaka Island and Adailiya using rainwater. He then expanded the scope of his work to include a farm in Basra where he focused on raising palm trees.

After his death in 1926, his son Jassim assumed responsibility for palm cultivation at the age of seventeen. Despite the difficulties he faced during World War II, Jassim Al-Mudhaf continued to care for agricultural lands in Basra, whose harvest was the best source of support for his family during this stage.

Jassim expanded his agricultural production by establishing a new farm in Sulaibiya in the 1960s. Shortly before his death, Jassim passed on his extensive knowledge and passion for palm cultivation to his son Fawzi, who continued the agricultural career of his father and grandfather before him.

During the brutal Iraqi invasion, Fawzi and his brother Muhalhal took a bold decision to transport rare varieties of palm trees from their farm in Basra to Kuwait. In the midst of the turmoil of the invasion and the strikes of the coalition forces, the brothers continued to plant and care for palm trees and maintain the continuity of the family’s agricultural heritage.

The post-Iraqi invasion period represented an important turning point in our field of work. Where Fawzi and Mohalhal learned about modern techniques in growing tissue palms. Their use of this pioneering technology led to a revolution in their way of working and in expanding their production and distribution of palm trees of all kinds in Kuwait. We cooperated extensively during this period with specialized laboratories in France and the United States of America to develop rare and valuable palm varieties. By 1992, the Wafra Farm was established, and its first production in 1994 was about 700 trees, followed immediately by the establishment of the Abdali Farm.

Over the course of 25 years, our farms, which include about 9,000 palm trees, have flourished, and, thanks to God, we have been able to sell more than 300,000 palm trees and seedlings. This achievement was crowned by us winning first place in the Khalifa International Date Palm Award in 2013 in the Distinguished Producer category. Which celebrated our ability to produce 13 of the best types of palm trees and make them available to farmers in Kuwait at reasonable prices.

Our commercial date production began in 1997, which in turn led to the expansion of our business to include product packaging and sales management. With the development in date production, Muhalhal Al-Mudhaf laid the foundation for the establishment of Baraka Dates as a Kuwaiti brand concerned with the production and sale of dates of various kinds. At this stage, he sought to develop the processes of manufacturing and producing dates and food products by using the latest international technologies and expertise, and setting clear and high quality standards. As a result of these efforts, thank God, the first Baraka Dates store was opened on Dates Street in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area in 2004.

Today, the fourth generation of the Al-Mudhaf family continues this journey spanning more than 100 years by developing new products, enhancing the spirit of innovation in all aspects of work, and expanding into regional markets. In 2013, we began the journey of building the visual identity of our brand, designing packaging specifications, and developing recipes for products that include dates, nuts, coffee, dried fruits, and more. Points of sale for various Baraka Dates products have also expanded to include 26 branches, in addition to selling our products in most associations, commercial markets, and many electronic commercial platforms.
